Check Mate! Chess Party
Check Mate!!! Once my boys turned 6 they were allowed to join the chess club/team and man are they hooked!!! They’ve studied chess moves (yeah, I’m actually not even really sure how to do that!), they’ve played non-stop, and they geek-out, er’ I mean obsess over chess games on the iPad! This past week they had their first chess tournament and they were so excited!
Watching your kids get excited about something has to be one of the more special things that happens as a parent. To show my boys that I shared their excitement and shared their interested I joined in and made a milk and cookie bar for all of the competitors in the tournament. With a few easy DIYS and some baking you can create a chess-scape fit for a queen!
How perfect are the Chessman Mini cookies from Pepperidge Farms!!! Love them and so did the kids! My niece, Olivia made the checkerboard cookies and I made the chess piece sugar cookies. I set out little bottles of water from Trader Joes and small cartons of organic vanilla milk from Horizon. Just enough for a small snack!
Waahooo!!!! Neither Gavin nor Grayer placed first, second, or third (of 28 children ages 6-12). But, Grayer got an award for 7 Checks and a Check Mate. When the coach announced Gray’s name Gavin jumped up and yelled “Yeah Grayer!”. Good stuff. Really good stuff.
Enjoy your weekend and I hope to be posting more soon! Much love!
